The consultants’ choice
At General Healthcare Group GHG), we believe that our relationship with our consultants is paramount. We are proud to call BMI Healthcare ‘The Consultants’ Choice’.
Our hospitals attract consultants with extensive NHS experience in a wide range of specialties. We offer the consultants who choose to work with us outstanding support so that their patients get the best possible care.
The very best support
We offer consultants support from highly trained nurses and other professional health care staff. Every hospital has a resident medical officer, qualified to registrar level and with advanced life support skills, who is available 24 hours a day. Hospitals with intensive care units always have an intensive care specialist available.
Each hospital also has a Medical Advisory Committee to advise on the granting of consultant practising privilege, subject to a bi-annual renewal process.
When considering where to establish private practice, more consultants choose to work in our hospitals; they consistently rate us* as better than our competitors in key categories, for example the quality of nursing staff.
The latest technology
To enable our consultants to carry out the most advanced procedures, we supply them with the latest equipment. We have a continual programme of capital investment to stay at the cutting edge of technology; for instance, in 2008 we purchased the UK’s first 128-slice adaptive CT scanner.
Relationships are key
Through our new BMI branding and the promise it makes, we aim to create an unshakeable long-term relationship between BMI Healthcare, our staff, our patients, our consultants and GPs.
This includes a new website that offers health care professionals the information they need in the most accessible format. We’ve also launched a GP hotline for quicker and easier referrals into our hospitals – this also means a better experience for our patients.
Innovative services
We have launched innovative new services both independently and in partnership with others. A joint venture with Medical Equipment Solutions Ltd at BMI Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield allows us to offer gamma knife surgery. This delivers radiation to targeted areas of the brain, allowing surgeons to treat tumours with minimal or no damage to surrounding tissue.
“As a surgeon it’s important to have an experienced team around me. That’s why I choose BMI.”
Mr Christopher Eden, Consultant Urologist, The Hampshire Clinic
“I have worked in BMI hospitals since 1999 across two sites, and in both hospitals have found up-to-date facilities, tight administration, and excellent support for my private practice. My strategy is to make BMI hospitals the first choice for my private patients.”
Mr Philip Bearn, Consultant General Surgeon, The Runnymede & The Princess Margaret Hospitals
